A Confluence alternative for docs and tracked work.
Looking for a Confluence alternative that keeps documentation and the work around it closer together? Notework combines Pages for team knowledge with structured tracking for tasks, issues, roadmaps, calendars, and other work.
Confluence is built around knowledge. Notework puts knowledge and tracked work in the same workspace.
Confluence is a broad knowledge and collaboration product. Teams can create Pages, Live Docs, Whiteboards, Databases, and other content inside Spaces, with real-time collaboration, comments, templates, and integrations across the Atlassian ecosystem.
| Feature | Confluence | Notework |
|---|---|---|
| Core model | Spaces containing Pages, Live Docs, Whiteboards, Databases, and other content | Pages, Projects, and Collections for docs and structured work |
| Documentation | Pages and Live Docs for lasting documentation and real-time collaboration | Pages for specs, notes, policies, handbooks, and reference docs |
| Structured information | Databases with configurable fields and table, card, and board layouts | Collections for tasks, issues, roadmaps, calendars, and other structured work |
| Task and issue tracking | Action items and databases for lighter tracking, with Jira integration for dedicated work items | Tracked work lives directly in Collections alongside its documentation |
| Organization | Spaces and nested content organize team knowledge | Projects give related documentation and tracked work one shared home |
| Wider ecosystem | Deep connections with Jira and other Atlassian products | A standalone workspace centered on docs, projects, and structured work |

What we believe
Ship small. Show your work. Read other people's code more than you write your own.
Code review
- Approve when it's better than what's there
- Comment with intent, not nitpicks
- Disagree with reasoning, not authority
Note. If you disagree, edit it. The doc is the discussion.
Confluence gives team knowledge a lot of room to grow.
Documentation is one of Confluence's strengths.
Pages give teams a place for more established documentation, while Live Docs support real-time collaborative writing without a separate publishing step. Whiteboards cover more freeform planning and ideation, and Databases add structured information with table, card, and board layouts.
That range works well when the workspace is primarily a place to create, organize, and share knowledge.
The distinction becomes more important when that knowledge turns into work that needs to move through a process.
Tracking the work can introduce another product model.
Confluence can handle action items and structured information directly. Its Databases support fields, entries, filters, and different layouts, and database entries can connect directly to Confluence pages and Live Docs.
For dedicated issue and project tracking, Confluence is designed to work closely with Jira. Teams can display Jira work items inside Confluence, create Jira work from Confluence, and connect Jira projects with related Confluence documentation.
That is a useful setup if your team already wants Confluence and Jira as complementary tools.
Notework takes a different approach. The documentation and the tracker can live inside the same project from the start.
Keep the project around both the knowledge and the work.
A Notework Project can contain the Pages and Collections that belong to the same product, team, initiative, or workstream. Pages hold the written knowledge. Collections handle work that needs properties, statuses, dates, assignees, or different views.
A product project might include the spec, meeting notes, issue tracker, and roadmap. An operations project might contain process documentation alongside recurring tasks and a calendar.
There is no need to decide that the documentation belongs in one product while the tracked work belongs in another. The project remains the shared context for both.
Choose an ecosystem or a single workspace.
Confluence becomes especially useful for teams already working across Atlassian. Its integrations make Jira work visible from Confluence and Confluence content accessible from Jira, while Whiteboards and Databases can also connect to work elsewhere in the ecosystem.
Notework is aimed at teams that want a smaller workspace model for the same everyday relationship between knowledge and work.
Pages, Projects, and Collections give documentation, project context, and structured tracking clear roles without requiring a separate issue-tracking product.
Simpler pricing for smaller teams.
Two plans and a flat workspace price, with seats that cost the same whether you add them today or next year. The whole table fits on one page.
